Scope and Content Haymarket Flour Mills, Haymarket Terrace, Edinburgh (Edinburgh City council area) This complex latterly belonged to J Herdman and Sons Ltd, flour millers. It was situated next to Haymarket Goods Station, and presumably used the railway to bring wheat from Leith Docks. This view shows the mills from the north west. The earliest section was the stone block on the right. The tall blocks to the left were early 20th century additions in reinforced concrete, to house roller-milling equipment and storage silos. The mills were disused by 1966, and were demolished soon after. Owing to the quantity of steel reinforcement in the reinforced concrete sections demolition took some time. There is now an office block on the site. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
