Lancefield Street and Hydepark Street, Anderston, Glasgow (City of Glasgow council area) This works was founded in about 1826 by the Lancefield Spinning Co, owned by the Graham family, a well-established dynasty of Glasgow merchants. This block was probably built c1840, as an addition to the 1820s block on Lancefield Street. This view shows the building from the north west, with single storey weaving sheds to the left, and what may have been a dyeworks to the right. In the left background is the water-tower of the Hydepark Bakery, situated on Hydepark Street. The Lancefield Cotton Work was one of a number of cotton spinning mills in the Anderston area. It had ceased functioning by 1877, when an addition to the Lancefield block was built for Thomas Brown, storekeeper. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
