Scope and Content Part of the Lancefield Cotton Work. Lancefield Street and Hydepark Street, Anderston, Glasgow (City of Glasgow council area) This works was founded in about 1826 by the Lancefield Spinning Co, owned by the Graham family, a well-established dynasty of Glasgow merchants. It expanded until about 1840, but was later developed as a warehousing complex. This view shows the building from the south west, The original mill is the right. To the left, part at least of the frontage beyond the gable was added in 1877 for Thomas Brown, storekeeper. The building was still being used as a store in 1966. The Lancefield Cotton Work was one of a number of cotton spinning mills in the Anderston area. It had ceased functioning by 1877, when the addition to the Lancefield block was built for Thomas Brown.
