Scope and Content Remains of Gartsherrie Rows, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire (North Lanarkshire council area) This row of sandstone rubble cottages was built to house workers in the Gartsherrie Iron Works of William Baird and Co. They were typical of many built in and around Coatbridge, and were the last to survive, though roofless. This view shows the rear of part of one of the rows, from the north east. The entrances were on this side. The stone construction was unusual for buildings of this type. These houses were demolished soon after this photograph was taken. Rows like this were seriously sub-standard, and were replaced by council houses from the 1920s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
