After the Monkland system became part of the North British Railway locomotive repair went to Cowlairs. This view shows the works from the west. when it was being used as a wagon repair shop. The gantry was used for lifting one end of a wagon to allow its wheels and bearings to be attended to. The decline in the use of railways for freight led to the closure of this works soon after this photograph was taken, and it has since been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
