Scope and Content Cyclops (Strathclyde) Foundry, Fore Street, Scotstoun, Glasgow (City of Glasgow council area) This foundry was built in 1898 for McEwan, Law and Lindsay, ironfounders to designs by R Brown, architect. It was close to the marine engineering and shipbuilding concerns on the north bank of the Clyde, and probably supplied them with castings. This view shows the frontage of the foundry, The red and white brick construction is typical of industrial buildings of the period, and the large arched doorway suggests that the firm was making large castings, Note also the roof-ridge ventilator. By 1965 the foundry had become known as the Strathclyde Foundry of GM Hay and Co Ltd, but was disused. It has since been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
