Scope and Content View from north-west of Woodside Crescent, Glasgow Woodside Crescent was designed in 1831 by Edinburgh architect George Smith (1793-1877). The terrace of Classical yellow sandstone houses forms a concave curve up Woodlands Hill. This photograph shows the sweep of the crescent with its stone balustrade, central Doric portico, basements and cast iron spearhead railings. The block used for getting into carriages can also be seen protruding from the pavement. The crescent was begun in 1831, the east section completed in 1835, and the west in 1842. George Smith also designed Woodside Terrace, Woodside Place and nearby Lynedoch Street and Lynedoch Crescent. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
