Scope and Content View from west of fireplace wall in north ground-floor apartment, No 2 Lancaster Crescent, Glasgow No 2 Lancaster Crescent was built in 1898 to designs by architect James Miller (1860-1947). Built on part of the Redlands estate, it formed a crescent with eight other houses all by different architects. At the end of the crescent stands Redlands House. This photograph shows the panelled room with its fireplace and fine plasterwork frieze. A row of cherubs dance around the walls with trumpets, and the rest of the frieze is covered with Art Nouveau floral designs. There are two cartouches above the niche. This lavishly decorated room would probably have been the main living or dining room for the house. The pale bas-relief frieze and fireplace contrasts with the dark colour of the wood-panelled walls.
