Scope and Content Yorkhill Quay from Govan, Lanarkshire (City of Glasgow council area) This quay, and the adjoining basin, was built by the Clyde Navigation Trust. The quay was the Glasgow base for the Anchor Line until the 1960s, when commercial traffic to the upper Clyde virtually ceased. This view shows the quay being used for the laying up of ships not immediately wanted for trade. On the left is the MV Orfeo, and on the right the MV Albertwill. Both had brought cargoes of bulk grain to Meadowside Granary before laying up. Behind the vessels is the long transit shed, used for the short-term storage of material to be shipped, of imported. Since the 1970s this shed has been subdivided, and houses a number of business uses. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
