Scope and Content Meadowside Granary from Govan, Lanarkshire (City of Glasgow council area) This very large block of granaries was built from 1911 onwards to store wheat and maize imported by sea from North America and northern Europe. The first section contained both storage for bags of grain, and silos for bulk storage. This view shows the granary in the centre, with the original 1911-13 section on the right. Note the covered conveyor along the front of the building, and the bulk carrier discharging grain. In the foreground is the southern terminal of the Govan vehicular ferry, with the cranes of Govan shipbuilding yard behind. The cranes on the right were on Meadowside Quay, which handled general cargo. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
