Scope and Content Huntingtowerfield Bleach and Dyeworks, Almondbank, Perthshire (Perth and Kinross council area) This works was founded in about 1775 to bleach linen, using the pure water of the river Almond, and became one of the largest bleachworks in Scotland. It continued in use until 1981 in the ownership of Burt, Lumsden and Co Ltd. This view shows part of the maintenance workshop in the works, with a long-bed lathe by Swift and Co, used for machining shafting. As was the practice in many older indorses, Huntingtowerfield had a well-equipped workshop for maintaining its equipment. Such shops often used machines discarded from manufacturing engineering shops. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
