Scope and Content Waterside Station, Waterside, by Patna, Ayrshire (East Ayrshire council area) This station was opened by the Ayr and Dalmellington Railway to serve the Dalmellington Iron Works and its associated village. The works had been established in the unrealised expectation of the link to Ayr being built by the Ayrshire and Galloway Railway This view shows the station building from the east. This had booking office and waiting rooms on the ground floor, with a house for the agent on the first floor. The wooden section was an extension. The station closed in 1964, when passenger services from Ayr to Dalmellington ended. The railway was, however retained as far as a coal washery at Waterside, and was still in use in 1981. The awning seen here was removed later in 1981. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
