Scope and Content Bunnahabhain Distillery, near Port Ascaig, Islay, Argyll (Argyll and Bute council area) This Islay Malt whisky distillery was built by a partnership which was incorporated in 1882 as the Islay Distillery Co Ltd. This concern amalgamated with W Grant and Co of Glenrothes-Glenlivet Distillery in 1887 to form The Highland Distilleries Co Ltd. This view shows the office block, at the north east corner of the distillery courtyard. The buildings to the right have been built against the wall which closed the east side of the courtyard. Bunnahabhainn was a revolutionary distillery when it opened, laid out round a courtyard, with maltings, mash-house, tun room, stillhouse, filling store and warehouses all linked, and with a pier for receiving materials and dispatching whisky.
