Scope and Content Dovecot, Lochend House, Lochend Park, Restalrig, Edinburgh Lochend House, an ancient tower-house built for the Logans of Restalrig, stands high on a precipitous site on the west side of Lochend Loch. Only a picturesque 16th-century fragment of the original building now survives. The dovecot, dating from the 16th century, is beehive-shaped. It stands to the north of the house, on the opposite side of the loch, on ground which was originally part of the old estate of the Logans but is now laid out as a public park. The dovecot was built on land once known as Logan Lea. The alternative name, Kilnacre, is believed to date from the mid-17th century when the dovecot may have been used as a kiln for burning infected clothing and belongings during the plague of 1645.
