Scope and Content Bruichladdich Distillery, near Port Charlotte, Islay, Argyll (Argyll and Bute council area) This Islay Malt whisky distillery was founded in 1881 by Robert Harvey and Co, whose partners also owned the Yoker and Dundashill distilleries. They probably built it to supply highly peated whisky for their own blending operations. This view shows the south range of the distillery from the north west. This range consisted of two floors of maltings, with a barley loft in the attic. The malt kiln was in the courtyard next to the right-hand end of this block. The distillery was closed from 1929-37 and was purchased in 1938 by a group with American connections. It was eventually, after several changes of ownership, bought by Invergordon Holdings Ltd, whose successors, JBB (greater Europe) plc still own it. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
