Scope and Content Former Aberlour Station, Banffshire (Moray council area) This station was opened in 1863 by the Strathspey Railway, but probably partly rebuilt in the 1890s by the Great North of Scotland Railway to serve the increased traffic generated by the whisky boom of the period. This view shows the main station building from the north west, with the platform in front of it. The building had been recently converted into a community centre, with the walls harled and a flight of steps built down from the platform. The station closed to passengers in 1965, and to freight in 1971, the track being speedily lifted, as was typical a t that time. The track-bed of the line has been converted into a long-distance footpath, known as the Speyside Way. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
