Scope and Content The interior of St Triduana's Chapel, Restalrig, Edinburgh St Triduana's Chapel, dating from the 15th century, stands at the south-west corner of ancient parish church of Restalrig. The chapel was dedicated to the obscure St Triduana, who acquired a reputation for curing eye complaints. This hexagonal vaulted chamber formed the lower level of the original two-tier chapel. The vault springs from a central pier with a capital elaborately carved with foliage, and its ribs make a six-point star decorated with shields and more carved foliage. The water which floods the interior is regularly pumped out. Its presence may be explained by a rise in the water-table since the 16th century, or by the well which once attracted blind pilgrims from all over the country to bathe in its special waters.
