Scope and Content Glenburgie-Glenlivet Distillery, near Alves, Moray (Moray council area) This distillery was established in 1829 as Kilnflat Distillery by William Paul. It had a complex pattern of ownership, being disused from 1870 to 1878, and from 1927-1935. It was purchased in 1936 by Hiram Walker- Gooderham and Worts of Canada. This view shows the two Glenburgie stills, with the wash still on the right. In the same stillhouse were two 'Lomond' stills, run as Glencraig distillery. which made a lighter-flavoured spirit than conventional stills. Hiram Walker and Sons (Scotland) Ltd were anxious to draw on a wider range of malts for their blended whiskies than were readily available in the late 1950s, so installed 'Lomond' stills, developed at Dumbarton, here and at Miltonduff.
