Date 6/5/1980

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 571398

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Glenkeith-Glenlivet Distillery, Keith, Banffshire (Moray council area) This was the first new distillery built after World War II. It incorporated a former oatmeal mill, and was constructed by Chivas Brothers Ltd, a subsidiary of Distillers Corporation-Seagrams Ltd of Canada. This view shows the condensers for the three original stills. These are of a short pattern favoured by Chivas. The one on the left served the only wash still in the distillery, and the other two the intermediate - low wines - stills. The product of the low wines stills was finally redistilled in two spirit stills. Triple distillation was uncommon in the Scotch Whisky industry, but was practised at Rosebank Lowland malt and Benrinnes Highland Malt distilleries. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
