Scope and Content Glenkeith-Glenlivet Distillery, Keith, Banffshire (Moray council area) This was the first new distillery built after World War II. It incorporated a former oatmeal mill, and was constructed by Chivas Brothers Ltd, a subsidiary of Distillers Corporation-Seagrams Ltd of Canada. This view shows the stillhouse, with the original three stills on the right, and two added in 1970 on the left. There were three original stills as triple distillation was practised. The distillery was silent in 1980, as shown by the open manholes. Triple distillation is particularly associated with Irish whiskey, but it was also practised in Scotland, historically in Campbeltown, and at Rosebank and Benrinnes distilleries. It tends to produce a lighter flavoured whisky than double distillation. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
