Scope and Content Strathisla-Glenlivet Distillery, Keith, Banffshire (Moray council area) This distillery was founded in 1786 as Milltown Distillery. It passed through various hand, being known as Strathisla Distillery from the 1870s to about 1890. In 1950 it was acquired by the Seagram Co of Canada, and transferred to Chivas Bros. Ltd. This view shows the rear of the distillery as adapted in 1965, when the number of stills was increased from two to four. The stillhouse is on the right, with the mash house and tun room to the left. The kiln ventilators are relics of a former maltings. The picturesque appearance and genuine antiquity of this distillery have caused Seagrams to make this a centre for the promotion of Chivas whiskies, and a high-quality visitor centre was opened in the courtyard buildings in the mid 1990s.
