Scope and Content Knockando Distillery, Knockando, Morayshire (Moray council area) Knockando Distillery was built in 1898 by the Knockando-Glenlivet Distillery Co at the end of the 1890s distillery boom. It was situated beside the Great North of Scotland Railway's Strathspey line. In 1904 it was bought by W and A Gilbey Ltd. This view shows the main productive buildings of the distillery, as rebuilt in 1969, when the number of stills was increased from two to four. The warehouses, loading bank and hand crane are on the right. Gilbeys became part of International Distillers and Vintners, which was absorbed by United Distillers in 1997. Knockando is a focal point for marketing, and the base for a whisky-tasting school. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
