Scope and Content Edradour Distillery, near Pitlochry, Perthshire (Perth and Kinross council area) This distillery was founded in about 1837 by John McGlashan and Co, a partnership of local farmers. It passed through various hands before being acquired in 1933 by William Whitely and Co Ltd, a subsidiary of JG Turney and Sons of the USA. This view shows the Morton's patent 'refrigerator' used to cool the wort from the mash tun before going to the wash-backs for fermentation. The tank contained running cold water, and the wort went through a series of tubes. This was the last of the small farm distilleries in Scotland, and had been comparatively little altered since the 19th century, The refrigerator is the last of its kind. The distillery was bought by Pernod Ricard in 1982, and adapted to receive visitors. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
