Scope and Content Edradour Distillery, near Pitlochry, Perthshire (Perth and Kinross council area) This distillery was founded in about 1837 by John McGlashan and Co, a partnership of local farmers. It passed through various hands before being acquired in 1933 by William Whitely and Co Ltd, a subsidiary of JG Turney and Sons of the USA. This view shows the 'refrigerator' used to cool the hot wort from the mash tun before it went into the wash-backs for fermentation. The copper tank contained running cold water, and the wort went backwards and forwards through a series of tubes. This was the last of the small farm distilleries in Scotland, and had been comparatively little altered since the 19th century, apart from the steam heating of the stills. It was acquired by Pernod Ricard in 1982, and adapted to receive visitors. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
