Scope and Content Edradour Distillery, near Pitlochry, Perthshire (Perth and Kinross council area) This distillery was founded in about 1837 by John McGlashan and Co, a partnership of local farmers. It passed through various hands before being acquired in 1933 by William Whitely and Co Ltd, a subsidiary of JG Turney and Sons of the USA. This view shows the tiny mash tun, with the grist hopper and mashing machine to the rear. The shovel in front of it was used to empty the spent grains - draff - after the last water had been drained away at the end of the mash. This was the last of the small farm distilleries in Scotland, and had been comparatively little altered since the 19th century, apart from the steam heating of the stills. It was acquired by Pernod Ricard in 1982, and adapted to receive visitors. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
