Scope and Content Limekilns, Dufftown, Banffshire (Moray council area) Limestone was worked and burned at various points within Dufftown, and was still being quarried in the 1980s. This bank of kilns was the largest in the area. This view shows the draw arch of one of the three kilns in the bank, all of which had twin draw-holes, suggesting that they had oval shafts. Note the exceptional quality of the masonry, and the loading platform; the kilns were rail-served. By 1980 the quarry was being worked by RHM Agricultural (Caledonia) Ltd, and the limestone was being crushed and stored in a steel silo set on top of the kilns. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
