Description Glenmorangie Distillery, Interior View showing filling store

Date 25/3/1980

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 570106

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Glenmorangie Distillery, Tain, Ross and Cromarty This distillery was converted from a brewery in 1843 by William Mathieson, and completely rebuilt in 1887 by the Glenmorangie Distillery Co Ltd. It was taken over in 1918 by MacDonald and Muir, whose successor company, Glenmorangie plc still own it. This view shows the filling store, with a cask being filled with newly- made malt spirit. The cask will then be stored in a warehouse until the whisky is mature enough to drink. The casks seen here are 'hogsheads'. MacDonald and Muir were among the first distillers after World War II to see a market for single malt whiskies. The distillery was enlarged in 1979 to cope with increasing demand.
