Scope and Content Alexander King and Co (Wishaw) Ltd's confectionery works, 10-16 King Street, Wishaw, Lanarkshire Kings were manufacturing confectioners on a medium scale. They specialised in sugar confectionery, and were best known for sweets like mint imperials and their celebrated 'Oddfellows', a cinnamon and clove-flavoured hard sugar sweet. This view shows the 'moderne' block which was their main street frontage. There were single-storey workshops to the rear, and an older two-storey masonry-fronted range to the right of this block. Kings went out of business in late1990, though their 'Oddfellows' are still made by another concern. Some of the sweet-making equipment, including a pan for making imperials, was acquired by Summerlee Heritage, and is on display there. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
