Scope and Content Detail of entrance-hall and staircase in Ardanaiseig House, Argyll and Bute Ardanaiseig, a mansion formerly known as northew Inverawe, was built for James Archibald Campbell, a descendant of the Campbell family of Inverawe. Ardanaiseig was designed by William Burn (1789-1870) and his original drawings of the house are dated 1833. The house, including the hall, was extensively remodelled internally in the early 20th century. The staircase with wooden balusters, which was completely rebuilt at this time, is a half-turn stair which climbs up three sides of an open well. There is a moulded wooden archway in the hall, with shallow projecting columns, or pilasters in the Doric style. At the rear of the hall is a panelled door with a moulded surround, or architrave.
