Scope and Content Plan of Gallanach House, Argyll and Bute Gallanach House was erected for Dugald MacDougall of Gallanach in 1814-17 to a design of William Burn (1789-1870). In 1903 the offices were remodelled and a residential wing added to the rear of the main block by Sir John Burnet (1857-1938). This is the original plan by Burn which was much reduced when the house was built. To the left is the advanced centrepiece on the main front. Towards the centre are the side bows, which became the terminal features when the house was built. The rear of the house (at the right) was not built. The planned basement at the rear of the house was set beneath the front of the house. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
