Scope and Content View of Lochnell House from the north-west, Argyll and Bute The L-plan Lochnell House consists of three linked buildings dating to different periods, ranging from the late 17th to the late 19th century. The oldest part of the house was probably built for Alexander Campbell, who succeeded to the property in 1671. The part of the house which dates to 1820 is to the left. To the right is the lower early Georgian dwelling house which dates to 1737-9. In front of the house is the principal elevation of the court of offices, or farm buildings, also dating to 1820. Built in the same castellated style as the house, the court of offices has a battlemented screen-wall with octagonal corner towers. There is an arched entrance gateway. Narrow slits in the wall to the left may have provided ventilation in the building. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
