Scope and Content View of Lochnell House from west, Argyll and Bute The L-plan Lochnell House consists of three linked buildings dating to different periods, ranging from the late 17th to the late 19th century. The oldest part of the house was probably built for Alexander Campbell, who succeeded to the property in 1671. To the right is the early Georgian dwelling house, dating to 1737-9, and to the left is the mansion dating to 1820. Designed by Archibald Elliot (1760-1823) this asymmetrical main front consists of circular and octagonal towers flanking a central bay. The central bay contains three main ranges of windows of diverse size and form, including a principal window with a balcony. All the walls have corbelled and crenellated parapets. The tower to the right is decorated with crosslet loops. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
