Scope and Content Detail of principal window in Lochnell House, Argyll and Bute The L-plan Lochnell House consists of three linked buildings dating to different periods, ranging from the late 17th to the late 19th century. The oldest part of the house was probably built for Alexander Campbell, who succeeded to the property in 1671. This round-arched window is the principal window in the main front of the later part of the house. This part of the house dates from 1816-20, and was built to the design of Archibald Elliot (1760-1823). The window opens onto a cantilevered stone balcony. The window is surmounted by a hood-mould and the date 1820 has been inscribed in the spandrels, or spaces, between the arch and the hood-mould. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
