Scope and Content View of Lochnell House from the south, Argyll and Bute The L-plan Lochnell House consists of three linked buildings dating to different periods, ranging from the late 17th to the late 19th century. The oldest part of the house was probably built for Alexander Campbell, who succeeded to the property in 1671. To the right is the rear elevation of the early Georgian dwelling house, dating to 1737-9. It has a semi-octagonal staircase which is decorated with a series of sunken circular panels, probably designed to house figure sculptures. The building in the centre dates to 1820 and links the early Georgian dwelling house with the long service wing to the left which is all that remains of the building built by Alexander Campbell. It is two-storeyed and has four vaulted cellars. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
