Scope and Content View of Lochnell House from the east, Argyll and Bute The L-plan Lochnell House consists of three linked buildings dating to different periods, ranging from the late 17th to the late 19th century. The oldest part of the house was probably built for Alexander Campbell, who succeeded to the property in 1671. To the left, is the early Georgian dwelling house dating to 1737-9. The advanced centrepiece was originally flanked on both sides, but only the left side now remains. The door and window surrounds are replicas of the originals. The battlemented mansion (right) was built between 1816 and 1820 to the design of Archibald Elliot (1760-1823). It has Classical-style window and door surrounds, designed to harmonise with the building to the left. The linking wall is three storeys high. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
