Scope and Content View of Gallanach House from north-north-west, Argyll and Bute Gallanach House was erected for Dugald MacDougall of Gallanach in 1814-17 to a design of William Burn (1789-1870). In 1903 the offices were remodelled and a residential wing added to the rear of the main block by Sir John Burnet (1857-1938). Most of the windows on this castellated main front have four-centred arch-heads. The taller windows on the ground floor also have corbelled hood-moulds, and the entrance doorway is also arch-headed with a hood-mould. The advanced centrepiece and the angle-towers have narrow arch-headed windows. To the left at the back is the addition of 1903. It consists of a three-storeyed tower built in a similar battlemented style to the original house. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
