Scope and Content Detail of ceiling in Lochnell House, Argyll and Bute The L-plan Lochnell House consists of three linked buildings dating to different periods, ranging from the late 17th to the late 19th century. The oldest part of the house was probably built for Alexander Campbell, who succeeded to the property in 1671. The house has been remodelled internally several times and few original features remain. This elaborate plaster ceiling, dating to the 19th century, is in the early Georgian part of the house. Consisting of three panels, it has an acanthus leaf cornice. The early Georgian part of the house was erected in 1737-9. Designed as a self-contained dwelling house, its principal room was on the first floor and was dominated by three large arched windows which are at the centre of the north-east façade.
