Scope and Content View of Lochnell House from the north-east, Argyll and Bute The L-plan Lochnell House consists of three linked buildings which date to different periods ranging from the late 17th to the late 19th century. To the right is the most recent building which dates to 1820, but was heavily restored after a fire in 1853. To the left is the early Georgian dwelling house which was erected 1737-9. Its plan conforms closely to that of many small mansion houses of the same date: a three-bayed, three-storeyed, hipped-roofed house with an advanced centrepiece. The centrepiece rises to a triangular pediment which bears the coat of arms of the Campbells of Lochnell, and is surmounted by three urn finials. The building of the early Georgian house was supervised by John Johnstone, a wright from Penicuik. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
