Scope and Content Detail of the headstone of Francis Glog, Corstorphine Old Parish Churchyard, Corstorphine, Edinburgh Corstorphine Old Parish Church, dating from the early 15th century, stands in Kirk Loan, at the historic centre of the old village of Corstorphine. The churchyard, which surrounds the church on three sides, contains many interesting old headstones. This headstone to Francis Glog of Claycott, a church treasurer who died in 1739, is carved at the top with a youthful face, below which is a Green Man, his mouth screaming in panic, and green leaves bursting from his cheeks, chin and the top of his head. The Green Man, carved on 18th-century headstones in many Lowland areas, may represent life springing out of death. Alternatively, it may be a symbol of the corruptibility of man's flesh as in the Biblical text beginning: 'All flesh is as grass'. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
