Scope and Content Commemorative plaque in the chancel, Corstorphine Old Parish Church, Corstorphine, Edinburgh Corstorphine Old Parish Church dates from the early 15th century, and became a collegiate church in 1429, founded by Sir John Forrester. It stands, surrounded by its churchyard, in Kirk Loan, at the historic centre of the old village of Corstorphine. This Latin inscription commemorates Provost Nicholas Bannatyne, who died in 1477, and the founding of the college in 1429. The last six words 'Orate pro Papa et pro eo' (Pray for the Pope and for him) were obliterated during the Reformation in 1560. Nicholas Bannatyne, the first provost of the collegiate church, served as priest for almost 50 years. He set up a commemorative tablet on the chancel wall to himself, leaving the date of his death as '147-', which was never later completed. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
