Scope and Content The effigies of Sir John Forrester and his wife, Corstorphine Old Parish Church, Corstorphine, Edinburgh Corstorphine Old Parish Church dates from the early 15th century, and became a collegiate church in 1429, founded by Sir John Forrester. It stands, surrounded by its churchyard, in Kirk Loan, at the historic centre of the old village of Corstorphine. These effigies of Sir John Forrester, who died in 1454, and his wife lie on a tomb-chest in the wall of the chancel. Sir John's body, decapitated by Cromwell's soldiers in 1650, is clad in plate armour, and his wife is shown wearing an elaborate gown. The effigies bear traces of black and red paint, part of the original decoration of the tomb. The interior walls of the chancel were originally finished in plaster, and also coloured in red and sable, the heraldic colours of the Forrester family. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
