Scope and Content The tomb of Sir John Forrester, Corstorphine Old Parish Church, Corstorphine, Edinburgh Corstorphine Old Parish Church dates from the early 15th century, and became a collegiate church in 1429, founded by Sir John Forrester. It stands, surrounded by its churchyard, in Kirk Loan, at the historic centre of the old village of Corstorphine. Sir John Forrester, son of Sir John, the founder of the church, died in 1454. His tomb, in the north wall of the chancel, lies under a broad moulded arch, and bears his recumbent effigy, clad in plate armour, alongside that of his wife. Two of the tomb's three armorial panels bear the Forrester coat of arms, represented by three hunting horns. The middle panel carries the arms of the Wigmers, the family of Sir John's wife, a descendant of John Wigmer, a 14th-century Edinburgh alderman. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
