It stands, surrounded by its churchyard, in Kirk Loan, at the historic centre of the old village of Corstorphine. This effigy of Sir John Forrester, the founder of the collegiate church, shows him clad in plate armour with his hands resting on a shield. His wife, lying alongside, wears a wimple and a long robe, with a chain round her neck and rings on each finger. Sir John Forrester founded the collegiate church (now the present church) in 1429. The original chapel on the site, built in 1404 by his father, Sir Adam, and later used as a family burial place, was incorporated into the church as the chancel. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
