Scope and Content Corstorphine Old Parish Church, Corstorphine, Edinburgh Corstorphine Old Parish Church dates from the early 15th century, and became a collegiate church in 1429, founded by Sir John Forrester. It stands, surrounded by its churchyard, in Kirk Loan, at the historic centre of the old village of Corstorphine. The church has a distinctive broken-backed appearance, due to the greater height of the tower and chancel relative to the nave. The south transept is unusual, being placed at the west end of the nave and not at the east end as was customary. The constitution of the collegiate church was like a cathedral, having a provost or dean, and a chapter of eight priests from neighbouring parishes to maintain daily services.
