Scope and Content The tomb of Sir John Forrester (the Founder's Tomb), Corstorphine Old Parish Church, Corstorphine, Edinburgh Corstorphine Old Parish Church dates from the early 15th century, and became a collegiate church in 1429, founded by Sir John Forrester. It stands, surrounded by its churchyard, in Kirk Loan, at the historic centre of the old village of Corstorphine. This tomb of Sir John Forrester, who died in 1440, lies in the north wall of the chancel, and shows his effigy on a tomb-chest alongside that of his wife. Above are carvings of a helm, a shield, and a dog's head, and below are five armorial shields. The five shields bear the Forrester coat of arms, three hunting horns, and in two panels are intertwined with the arms of the Sinclairs of Orkney, and the Stewarts of Garlies, the families of two of Sir John's wives. The dog's head was the family crest. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
