Scope and Content The West Tower, Corstorphine Old Parish Church, Corstorphine, Edinburgh Corstorphine Old Parish Church dates from the early 15th century, and became a collegiate church in 1429, founded by Sir John Forrester. It stands, surrounded by its churchyard, in Kirk Loan, at the historic centre of the old village of Corstorphine. The squat west tower dates from 1444. It is detached from the west gable of the nave, and carries an octagonal stone spire with three crenellated bands and pinnacles at the corners. The bell-stage has small paired windows. The bell has an interesting inscription: 'Sir James Forrester gifted me to this kirk anno 1577 and the heretors of Corstorphine me reneued anno 1728 R M fecit E D R'. 'R M' may be either Robert Meikle or Robert Maxwell, both well-known bell founders. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
