Scope and Content Detail of dining-room passage in Torrisdale Castle, Argyll and Bute Torrisdale Castle was originally a castellated Georgian Gothic house, designed for General Keith Macalister in 1815. In the early 20th century, extensive north and south wings were added to the house, using the same Gothic style. The dining room is in the original part of the house, which is thought to have been designed by James Gillespie Graham (1777-1855), a Scottish architect who specialised in asymmetrical Gothic buildings. Graham devised Gothic interiors which had authentic medieval character. This passage into the dining room is panelled with curved doors. The doors, walls and ceiling are decorated with cusped tracery of Perpendicular style. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
