Scope and Content View of dining room in Torrisdale Castle, Argyll and Bute Torrisdale Castle was originally a castellated Georgian Gothic house, designed for General Keith Macalister in 1815. In the early 20th century, extensive north and south wings were added to the house, using the same Gothic style. This dining room has a bowed end. The wall is panelled to dado height and the doors, framed by moulded architraves, are curved and decorated with Perpendicular tracery. There is a frieze, decorated with fruit and flowers, surmounted by a cornice. The dining room is in the original part of the house, which is thought to have been designed by James Gillespie Graham (1777-1855), a Scottish architect who specialised in asymmetrical Gothic buildings.
