Scope and Content View of morning room in Torrisdale Castle, Argyll and Bute Torrisdale Castle was originally a castellated Georgian Gothic house, designed for General Keith Macalister in 1815. In the early 20th century, extensive north and south wings were added to the house, using the same Gothic style. The morning room is panelled to dado height and has large doors in dark wood framed by moulded architraves. The doors are panelled and decorated with Perpendicular tracery. The plaster ceiling is ribbed and has a cornice with a frieze below it. Henry Clifford designed the new south and north wings of the house in the same style as the original building, which is thought to have been designed by James Gillespie Graham. When Clifford added the wings he also redesigned the interior. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
