Scope and Content View of Achlian House from the north, Argyll and Bute Achlian House, probably built in the late 18th century and described in 1811 as 'lately built', is likely to have been built for Alexander Campbell. He had leased Achlian from Duncan Campbell of Inverawe and then from his successor, Robert Campbell. The house is rectangular on plan and is two-storeyed with an attic. The main front is symmetrical with a central entrance doorway which is flanked by three-light windows with narrow side-lights. The doorway is surrounded by a moulded architrave. The architrave has consoles, or ornamental brackets, at its upper corners which support an undecorated frieze and a moulded cornice. The house has a slated roof and is built of harled rubble. The windows have sandstone surrounds. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
